Florida State University maintains a university-wide Lost and Found Program administered by the Division of Student Affairs. Lost or abandoned personal property found on university property is handled in accordance with Florida Statutes § 705.18 and FSU Regulation FSU-2.026, Lost, Abandoned, or Seized Personal Property.
Reporting Lost Property
If you have lost an item on campus, you should contact the Division of Student Affairs Lost and Found Program. Individuals may submit a lost property report online or contact Student Affairs directly for assistance.

If You Find Property on Campus
Lost or abandoned property found on campus should be turned in to a designated University Lost and Found location. The University maintains collection points across campus where items can be safely secured while reasonable efforts are made to locate the owner.
Role of the Florida State University Police Department
FSUPD officers who locate lost property or receive property from members of the public will make reasonable efforts to identify the owner. When an owner cannot be located, the property is transferred to a designated University Lost and Found location managed by the Division of Student Affairs.
Once property has been transferred to the Division of Student Affairs, FSUPD personnel do not maintain custody of, or have access to, submitted property. Questions regarding lost property should be directed to the Division of Student Affairs Lost and Found Program.
Items Requiring Police Handling
Certain items may not be accepted into the general Lost and Found Program and must instead be handled by law enforcement for investigation or safe disposal. These items include:
- Firearms, ammunition, and other weapons
- Illegal drugs or narcotics, including prescription medications
- Drug paraphernalia
- Dangerous chemicals
- Flammable materials

In accordance with Florida law governing State University System institutions, Florida State University administers the collection, storage, and disposition of lost and abandoned property through the Division of Student Affairs. FSUPD supports this process but does not maintain a general lost-and-found repository for campus property.
